Strap 101 – Materials
Classic Calfskin
Calfskin is the denim of watch-strap materials. Its fine surface works with everything, it feels supple and it is durable. In short, this is the ideal strap for: EVERYTHING. That is why we offer it in a wide range of colours, so your watch can be matched to EVERYTHING.
Organic Calfskin
100% organic – and we mean it. We are German: we certify and guarantee it. Every stage of the production chain is organic, from raising the animals and chrome-free vegetable tanning to the natural, untreated surface.
Novonappa Calfskin
Novonappa leather comes from the French Haas tannery, founded in 1842. It is renowned worldwide for its exceptional quality and use in French luxury bags and wallets. The elaborate tanning process makes the leather remarkably soft from day one, while allowing it to develop a particularly beautiful patina over time.
French-Style Cowhide
Some watches call for something more elegant. We offer our French-style embossing in a slimmer version that is perfect for dress watches, while giving any watch a French accent. To keep the strap highly durable, we chose cowhide: it is firmer and holds its shape better than calfskin. The French-style embossing is not only an elegant companion to, say, guilloché dials; it also serves a practical purpose. It compresses the leather and makes it more resistant should a splash of champagne go astray.
Alcantara
What looks more luxurious than suede – whether on an overshirt or a bag? Few materials drape more beautifully or feel better in the hand. Unfortunately, few age faster or less gracefully either.
We found a solution that offers the look and feel of suede without the drawbacks. After all, luxury car seats need to be beautiful and practical too – and that is exactly where we took our inspiration. We use Alcantara, the material often paired with a V8 or a flat-six under the bonnet. It has the supple surface and play of light, yet it can be wiped clean. What works in a car interior can easily handle everyday life on the wrist. Alcantara is so durable that we even use it on the underside of the strap, so its pleasant texture sits directly against the skin. That also makes the strap vegan.
Our Alcantara strap is as elegant as it is durable, expertly hand-stitched – and vegan.
“Good Life” Fabric Strap
Our fabric strap gets any watch ready for summer. Naturally, you can swim with it too – and with a clear conscience: the upper is made from recycled ocean plastic supplied by the SEAQUAL Initiative. The lining is vegan apple leather with a water-resistant finish.
Shell Cordovan
The material comes from horses. It has a natural lustre that gives every colour depth. At the same time, it is exceptionally durable and grows more beautiful with age. It has also become rare. Since horses are no longer commonly kept as working animals, only a handful of tanneries still produce Cordovan. That is why it is mainly used for the finest footwear – and by us for watch straps. Naturally, our colour range includes the famous “No. 8”.
Russian Leather
Russian leather has a long history as a natural performance material, used for example in mountaineering boots. It is exceptionally soft yet resistant to water and oils – ideal for the weekend, whether at the club or in the woods.
Lambskin
Lambskin is exceptionally soft and has a fine grain. It is the cashmere jumper of watch straps. That is why we offer it with the highest possible level of hand craftsmanship: a quiet-luxury option for anyone who finds alligator a little too loud.
