Handcrafting a leather watch strap in a German workshop

Every StrapKlub strap is made in Germany from the finest materials using time-honoured craftsmanship, so it will last and develop a beautiful patina.

Depending on the design, a single strap can require up to 175 individual steps and several hours of work by master craftspeople.

Rembordé construction & material build

In a technique known as rembordé construction, the upper leather is folded around to the underside. A breathable interlining gives the strap its three-dimensional profile, much like the horsehair canvas that gives a bespoke jacket its structure. Bonding the skin-friendly lining leather helps prevent bacteria from penetrating the layers. Five coats of colour are applied to the strap edges for a perfect finish.

Hand-sewn saddle stitching

All layers of the strap are joined with saddle stitching, a technique in which two hand-guided needles work a single thread from opposite sides. The resulting seam is exceptionally strong—comparable to the construction of a Goodyear-welted shoe. Even the leather keepers are stitched by hand.

Exceptional materials

This high level of craftsmanship matches the precious materials we work with, both modern and traditional.

We offer leathers with special characteristics, such as extra-soft Novonappa from the famous Haas tannery in France, horsehide Shell Cordovan, or genuine Russian leather. For our organic leather, we have achieved 100% certification from animal rearing through to strap finishing. All leather straps are lined with particularly valuable Zermatt leather from Haas.

Innovation & sustainability

While we deeply value traditional craftsmanship, we embrace material innovation wherever it improves performance. We value Alcantara, for example, because it looks as elegant as suede while being exceptionally durable and easy to wipe clean. It is also vegan. Our floating strap is made from certified recycled ocean plastic and lined with water-resistant apple leather—naturally, it is vegan too.
