The Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch is one of the all-time great classics, with a character to match. For this guide, Knud @kndndrsn chose three straps that bring out that character – and one that gives the Speedie a completely different interpretation.

Pigskin: back to the 1960s

Let’s start at the beginning: in the 1960s, the Speedmaster was worn not only on a steel bracelet, but often on pigskin straps as well. If you want to give the watch a vintage vibe, pigskin is perfect. Its characteristic grain also works beautifully with the slightly rough texture of the dial.

Russian leather for the Omega deployant clasp

Perhaps you already wear your Speedie on a leather strap with the Omega deployant clasp and are looking for a new strap. In that case, I recommend the Russian leather version. Novonappa: from the Moon to a Parisian café

While the Speedmaster was still a pure tool watch in 1957, in recent years it has also moved into the realm of luxury. If you want to bring out this new vibe, choose Novonappa calfskin. This exceptionally high-quality leather is ultra-soft and supple; connoisseurs will immediately notice the extra-fine stitches of the painstakingly hand-sewn saddle stitching. In light brown, the strap brings the Speedmaster down from the Moon and into a Parisian café.

Good Life: take your Speedie into the water

Perhaps you want to take your current-generation Speedie on a summer holiday and go swimming with it. No problem with the “Good Life” strap: it was designed for swimming. The upper is made from recycled ocean plastic, and its sailcloth texture perfectly complements the watch’s mid-century design. The underside is made from water-resistant apple leather, so water and even sunscreen simply bead off. The strap is vegan too.
